Finding Hope Through Healing: Why I Became a Counsellor

For many years, I worked as a paramedic, witnessing firsthand the intensity, unpredictability, and sometimes devastating moments of life. On any given day, I saw people at their most vulnerable—experiencing trauma, loss, fear, or crisis. While the work was incredibly meaningful, I also saw the emotional toll it took on the individuals I helped, their families, and even my colleagues. That experience planted a seed in me: I wanted to help people process and heal from those experiences in a deeper, more sustainable way.

Being part of the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) team added another layer to that understanding. I’ve been privileged to support first responders and others in processing critical incidents—those moments that can stay with a person long after the event ends. Through this work, I’ve seen that even in the most overwhelming situations, people can find resilience and reclaim a sense of balance. More importantly, I’ve seen that hope is always present, even when it feels out of reach.

That belief—that hope exists for everyone—is at the heart of why I started Embrace Hope Counselling. My goal is to create a safe, compassionate space where clients can explore their struggles, make sense of their experiences, and develop the tools to move forward. Counselling isn’t about ignoring pain or pretending it doesn’t exist; it’s about acknowledging what’s happened, understanding how it affects you, and choosing a path that leads toward healing and growth.

Whether someone is dealing with trauma, anxiety, grief, or life transitions, I want them to know that there is a way forward. I want to help clients see their own hope and learn how to embrace it—even when life feels overwhelming. Every person has the capacity for resilience and the potential to build a life that feels meaningful and balanced. My work as a counsellor is dedicated to guiding people toward that place, one step at a time.

At Embrace Hope Counselling, hope isn’t just a word—it’s a practice. It’s about noticing the small possibilities for change, trusting that growth is possible, and building the skills to live in alignment with what matters most. My journey from paramedic to counsellor has shown me that even in the hardest moments, healing is possible, and hope is real.
